A beginners Guide to Chakras

The Chakras are energy centers within the human body and serve as vital force. These are centres of comic energy manifested in the living body.

There are seven chakras in human body. The Chakras are not perceptible to the awake senses.

Chakras are based on the fact principle that human body has a corresponding astral body. The physical body is shaped in accordance with the nature of the astral body. The physical body is something like water. When water is heated, the steam or vapour corresponds to the astral body. In the same way the astral is within the physical body. The physical body cannot do anything without the astral body. Every physical centre of the body has its astral Centre. This astral body is known as sukshma sarira(subtle body) in the Sanskrit.

Spinal cord is the axis of the physical body. The six centres are along the length of spinal cord are: the Muladhara at the base of the spinal column near the anus; above it, in the region of the genitals called the Svadhishthana, abdomen near navel Manipura , near heart Anahata, near  throat Visuddha, and in the forehead between the two eyes is Ajna Chakras. The seventh region beyond the Chakras is the upper brain, the highest centre of manifestation of consciousness in the body and therefore, the abode of the Supreme Lord.

Man is a microcosm of universe and whatever exists in the outer universe exists in him. All the essences and worlds are within him and so is the Supreme lord.

Nadis are the astral tubes made up of astral matter that carry psychic currents. It is through these Nadis (Sukshma, subtle passages), that the comic current (Prana) moves or flows . Since they are made up of subtle matter they cannot be seen by the naked physical eyes and you cannot make any test-tube experiments in the physical plane. These Yoga Nadis are not the ordinary nerves, arteries and veins  and are quite different from these.

The body is filled with innumerable Nadis that cannot be counted. When you look at the internal structure of the body, you are struck with awe and wonder with body’s complex mechanism because the architect of this body is the supreme Lord.

The subtle tubes, Yoga Nadis, have influence in the physical body. All the subtle (Sukshma) Prana, Nadis and Chakras have physical manifestation and operation in the human body. The physical nerves and plexuses have close relationship with the subtle ones. Since the physical centres have close relationship with the astral centres, the vibrations that are produced in the physical centres, have the desired effects in the astral centres.

Whenever there is an intertwining of several nerves, arteries and veins, that centre is called “Plexus.” Similarly there are plexuses of vital forces in the Nadis. They are known as Chakras.

Color ,god, petals associated with each chakra will be covered in subsequent posts
